The Entry Support Mechanic plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and smooth operation of baggage handling systems at the airport. This position involves providing technical support and maintenance for baggage handling equipment, troubleshooting issues, and performing routine inspections to ensure optimal performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Equipment Maintenance and Repair:
- Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on baggage handling systems, including conveyor belts, sortation systems, and automated baggage handling equipment.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic issues in baggage handling equipment.
- Assist senior mechanics in more complex repairs and troubleshooting.
Troubleshooting:
- Respond promptly to equipment malfunctions or breakdowns, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.
- Monitor equipment performance and make adjustments or repairs as needed to maintain efficiency and safety.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts used.
- Complete maintenance logs and service reports in a timely manner.
- Report major issues or recurring problems to the Baggage Handling Supervisor.
Safety and Compliance:
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
- Ensure that all equipment complies with regulatory standards and safety regulations.
- Participate in safety training and adhere to best practices.
Collaboration and Support:
- Work closely with other mechanics, engineers, and airport staff to coordinate maintenance activities and minimize disruption to baggage handling operations.
- Assist in training new employees or less experienced staff on equipment maintenance and safety procedures.
Continuous Improvement:
- Stay updated with the latest technologies and best practices in baggage handling and maintenance.
- Suggest improvements or upgrades to enhance equipment performance and efficiency.
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or technical certification in mechanical or electrical fields is preferred.
- Ability to obtain and maintain airside security access.
- Basic mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Familiarity with baggage handling systems and equipment is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) and perform physical tasks.
- Capability to work in various environmental conditions, including confined spaces and elevated areas.
- Standing, walking, and lifting heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.)
- Shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Work in secure, restricted areas of the airport
Pay rate: $26.52 per hour, Fringe rate: $7.86 per hour
Work schedule: Wednesday 10:00pm - 4:00am and Thursday - Saturday 4:00pm - 4:00am
