WHAT IS KEY FOR AIRPORTS WHEN WORKING WITH DATA?

It’s long been said that data is gold, the new oil. But that’s only true to a certain point; it’s what you do with data that makes it important.

The value of data can be maximised through visualisation, explains Per Engelbrechtsen, Business Development Director at BEUMER Group. Different levels of data visualisation will provide users with different levels of knowledge.

For baggage handling operators for example, Engelbrechtsen says, data can be displayed in dashboards that provide a picture of what’s happening in the baggage handling assets. But dashboards will give you only certain knowledge. He explains:

“By applying more layers, data can be taken further and translated into strategic KPIs and overall equipment effectiveness to gain deeper understandings on how different areas of the baggage handling process are performing.”

And with the use of digital twins and decision science, data can be taken to still higher levels.

Data is just the foundation. But when used with visualisation tools, it can enable decision making and utilisation of the BHS in different ways. Then, indeed, data becomes gold.
