TRACEABILITY, CONTROL AND CLEAR INTERFACE

A first-class modernisation of the baggage handling system at Nice Côte d’Azur Airport’s Terminal 1 saw the integration of a BEUMER autover®. The cart-based independent carrier system (ICS) for baggage handling was designed to ensure that each bag stays with its dedicated autoca® carrier, enabling complete 100% track-and-trace throughout the baggage journey.

The compact, fully redundant baggage handling system has been designed with tight curve radii to efficiently fit and maximise the use of an existing space-constrained former car park area of the airport with low-ceiling height.

At Nice Côte d’Azur Airport, the BEUMER autover system supports ECAC 3 explosive detection screening (EDS) and provides load balancing at the screening matrix to ensure seamless bag transport through all screening machines.

Whenever baggage is checked in early, each piece of luggage will be picked up by a cart, screened and transported for intermediate storage on a belt conveyor early baggage storage. Later, when the baggage make-up window opens, the baggage will be released and picked up by a cart for further processing and delivery at the baggage hall.

CONTINUOUS SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE STRATEGY

In daily operation, built-in monitoring in each cart enables predictive and condition-based maintenance and the system automatically directs carts to a centralised maintenance zone when servicing is required. This allows individual carts to be maintained without disrupting daily operations, ensuring that baggage handling continues uninterrupted during maintenance activities.

The rail system itself has no motors, sensors or any other moving parts which makes it virtually maintenance free.
