General Responsibility:
BEUMER Corporation is seeking an experienced, hands on Principal Controls Engineer with deep expertise in high throughput material handling automation, complex machine control, or large scale industrial systems.

This position is made for engineers who enjoy solving complex automation challenges, working closely with real machinery, and developing robust, scalable control logic—not managing people.
You will directly contribute to BEUMER’s core control technologies used across high-speed sorters, advanced packaging & palletizing systems, and airport baggage handling equipment.
Responsibilities
Core Technical Responsibilities
- Develop, refine, and maintain PLC‑based control systems for sophisticated material‑handling equipment and high‑speed sortation platforms.
- Translate customer requirements and system specifications into clear, reliable, and efficient control logic.
- Review electrical schematics, network architecture, and functional documentation as part of system development.
- Support technology deployment in live projects, including testing, troubleshooting, and system optimization.
Integration & Collaboration
- Work with electrical engineering teams on I/O structures, network topologies, and hardware selection.
- Coordinate with PC software engineers to ensure smooth communication layers and system interaction.
- Participate in in‑house testing (FAT), on‑site commissioning, and project support when needed.
Global Technical Alignment
- Stay current with advancements in machine control technologies and industrial automation trends.
- Collaborate with BEUMER’s global engineering organizations—including European development groups—to maintain alignment of controls standards and technical direction.
- Contribute to the evolution of BEUMER’s global control platform strategy.
Additional Engineering Tasks
- Prepare and test PLC hardware for projects when assigned.
- Provide second‑tier technical support for escalations requiring advanced troubleshooting.
- Assist in development efforts for packaging/palletizing or airport systems when needed.
Compensation range: $160,000.00 - $180,000.00 Annually
The posted salary range reflects the compensation the company reasonably expects to offer for this position. Actual compensation will not be less than the posted minimum and will be based on multiple factors.
Requirements/Skills and Abilities
Required Background
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Controls Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent technical expertise.
- Minimum 8 years of hands‑on experience with machine control in material handling, automation, robotics, or industrial equipment environments.
Technical Expertise:
- Strong proficiency with Allen‑Bradley (Rockwell) and Siemens TIA Portal platforms.
- Deep understanding of advanced machine‑control concepts, system diagnostics, sequencing, and safety logic.
- Ability to independently analyze, diagnose, and resolve complex technical issues in dynamic environments.
- Familiarity with industrial networks, I/O management, and hardware integration.
Professional Skills:
- Excellent problem‑solving abilities and a strong attention to detail.
- Clear and concise communication skills—written and verbal.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively in a project-driven environment.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed, up to 30%.
