Job Description
The Test Manager combines expertise in PLC-based machine controls programming, automation technology, and system testing with a strong focus on system performance validation and stakeholder coordination within the material handling industry. The position requires a highly skilled professional capable of designing, programming, and validating machine controls systems, ensuring compliance with customer requirements, and leading machine controls development and commissioning activities, ensuring successful project execution. Strong technical, organizational, and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to solve complex engineering challenges independently.
Machine Controls & Automation:
- Design and program machine controls systems for BEUMER sorters and conveyors, using base machine controls code.
- Develop and optimize PLC programs with a focus on process and performance data collection
- Work with electrical engineering to define I/O networks and addressing.
- Collaborate with PC software developers to integrate control systems.
Testing & Commissioning:
- Plan, measure, and report progress on commissioning and related testing phases, ensuring compliance with functional design specifications.
- Validate system performance and confirm that all commissioning documents/check-sheets are properly completed.
- Conduct customer acceptance testing and facilitate the handover to customer support/hotline
- Work with System Sales during the proposal phase of the project to ensure adequate resources and time allocation, taking into consideration contractual system acceptance criteria
- Liaise with management on daily tests and operations to guarantee timely project execution.
- Attend and represent BEUMER in commissioning meetings with key stakeholders.
- Supporting the project managers in building the program of work and resource allocation to align with project objectives.
- Measure and report discrepancies between commissioning progress and functional design requirements.
- Request and coordinate service interruptions with the client as needed.
- Carry out other assignments as requested by management or on-site teams.
Project Leadership & Documentation:
- Lead small to mid-size controls projects, managing a team of engineers.
- Prepare documentation following BEUMER philosophy of testing (L5..L1)
- Analyse the system performance trends and provide inputs and recommendations for "the lessons learned" sessions
Compensation Range: 120,000-130,000 Annually
The posted salary range reflects the compensation the company reasonably expects to offer for this position. Actual compensation will not be less than the posted minimum and will be based on multiple factors.
Qualifications
Requirements & Skills:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
- Must have a minimum of 10 years of experience in machine control programming, system testing, and commissioning.
- Expertise in Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLC programming.
Technical Proficiency:
- Strong knowledge of automation technology, electrical components, and machine control concepts.
- Ability to evaluate engineering problems and develop solutions independently.
- Experience with testing methodologies, commissioning processes, and troubleshooting techniques.
- Familiarity with computer-based tools for project management and programming.
Soft Skills & Leadership:
- Excellent time management, attention to detail, and ability to learn quickly.
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
- Ability to work in a team environment and lead engineering projects.
- Capacity to train and mentor junior engineers and customer personnel.
- Professional, positive, and energetic attitude.
- Willingness to travel nationally and internationally for project execution and commissioning activities up to 50%.
